Review: Freaks and Revelations

Freaks and Revelations by Davida Wills Hurwin
Have you ever read a book that made you think about the way the world is? A book that makes you seriously pause for a moment to contemplate how you treat others? This is one of those books!
It was brutal and honest and thought provoking all at once. I loved it. It tackles the issue of hate crimes, homophobia, and racism. It's a pretty heavy subject and at times the book is rather bleak, but then there are the moments of hope that balance it out. The two characters in this book go through a lot of struggles and have to endure so much in such a short time it's a wonder they make it through life at all! I won't spoil the book but the ending is a great reminder of how humans can endure anything and still find happiness.

I cried, I cringed, and I couldn't stop reading. It's beautifully but brutally honest and well written. I highly recommend it.

  1. nice review. i really want to read this one. i'm glad it packs such a punch. it would be perfect for my new LGBT entertainment blog.

  2. this is a GREATTT book. some of doug's parts are a little boring but it gets really good toward the end. it's REALLY emotional and gut-wrenching. i had to stay up all night to finish it. i even had to get up and pace the room a couple times at some moments.
