Blog Tour and Giveaway: The Tale of Mally Biddle

The Tale of Mally Biddle by M.L. LeGette

When Mally Biddle agreed to spy upon the King of Lenzar and his overbearing knights she knew she was heading into danger. She didn't know she'd find a family unlike any other.

Posing as a servant in Bosc Castle, Mally serves tea and tends fires for the most dangerous men in the kingdom. Her goal is to learn the truth of what happened sixteen years ago, when the infant princess met her death ... a death that is surrounded by more questions than answers.

Along her search for the truth, Mally meets the energized Lita Stump, the strict and matriarchal Meriyal Boyd, and the opinionated Archibald Diggleby. Then of course there are the knights: Leon Gibbs who is slicker than a greased hog, Adrian Bayard, hot tempered and violent, and the worst of the lot: Sir Illius Molick, Captain of the Knights. And then there is Maud, a mysterious woman who just might know everything...

Praise
"To say I loved this book is an understatement. Mally is a wonderful character and she encounters so many quirky folks on her assignment. Very well written and engaging story! And an added bonus of a love triangle! I enjoyed it from beginning to end!! I will definitely be looking for more from this author!"
~April Holgate

Author Melissa LeGette
Melissa LeGette lives in Georgia where she helps run a family farm, so her nails are a fright. The Tale of Mally Biddle is her second novel.

My Thoughts:

This was a very fun, quick, and enjoyable read. Mally is a great character. It was a bit mild for my tastes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a bad book. There is action, there is adventure, and there is a spunky, smart, yet sweet heroine. I think this would definitely be a great read for a younger reader! There's not much in the way of grown up things, even the deaths and such are kind of tame or only mentioned never showed. Again, not a bad thing..I just like my castles and knights a bit more slashy swoony..

Now do not get me wrong here! The writing was very good! It is a solid story if clean fiction/fantasy is what you like! If you are looking for a headstrong, independent female main character, then Mally is your girl. I would highly recommend this to a young person just starting to branch out into fantasy type of fiction!

All in all I wasn't disappointed. I just am used to a bit more mature action. I did very much enjoy it, even in spite of the lack of heavy bosoms and glistening man chests..

Armchair BEA Introduction

Hi there...What a greeting huh?
  1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? I'm Melissa. I'm a 32 year old weirdo from Alabama that tries to read a lot, watch a lot of tv (namely Supernatural, Castle, Elementary, and Dr. Who) and spends a LOT of time sitting at my laptop "being productive." I have been blogging since 2009, and I kind of just stumbled upon this. I google fu'd a book and stumbled on a book blog, and the rest is history.
  2.  Tell a random fact or something special about your current location. Feel free to share pictures.  I'm in Alabama..what is your definition of "special?" This is our state bird
  3. Have you previously participated in Armchair BEA? What brought you back for another year? If you have not previously participated, what drew you to the event?  I believe I participated last year. I just think it's grand! I've ALWAYS wanted to attend BEA, but never could get the chance or the cash. So this is like the next bestest thing, right?
  4. Tell us one non-book-related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you. I am a virtual assistant. I specialize in helping awesome writers get their books out in the public's eye! I cannot write to save my life, but I LOVE books. Any way I can help get them in people's hands I'm going to do it! (well not illegal things but you get my drift.)
  5. Name your favorite blog(s) and explain why they are your favorite(s).  books i done read. read it. it's hilarious. you'll see.
  6. If you could eat dinner with any author or character, who would it be and why? Stephen King. The guy either is completely nuts or he's a GENIUS. I think he's nuts.
  7. What literary location would you most like to visit? Why?  London. No reason. Just London.
  8. What is your favorite part about the book blogging community? The part where it's a community. Sometimes we can be like a giant fun family. Sometimes we can be dysfunctional and twitchy. It's awesomeballs!
  9.
     In conclusion...

Blog Tour: Sight Reading

Hardcover: 352 pages
• Publisher: Harper (May 21, 2013)

The critically acclaimed author of Russian Winter turns her “sure and suspenseful artistry” (Boston Globe) to the lives of three colleagues and lovers in the world of classical music. On a Boston street one warm spring day, Hazel and Remy spot each other for the first time in years. Although their brief meeting may seem insignificant, behind them lie two decades in which their life paths have crisscrossed, diverged, and ultimately interlaced. Remy, a gifted violinist, is married to the composer Nicholas Elko—once the love of Hazel’s life. It has been twenty years since Remy, an ambitious conservatory student; Nicholas, a wunderkind launching an international career; and his wife, the beautiful and fragile Hazel, first came together, tipping their collective world on its axis. As their story unfolds from 1987 to 2007, from Europe to America, from conservatory life to the Boston Symphony Orchestra, each discovers the surprising ways in which the quest to create something real and true—be it a work of art or one’s own life—can lead to the most personal of revelations. Lyrical and evocative, Sight Reading explores the role of art and beauty in everyday life, while unspooling a transporting story of marriage, family, and the secrets we keep, even from ourselves.

Daphne Kalotay is the author of the novel Russian Winter, which won the Writers’ League of Texas Fiction Award and has been published in twenty languages, and the fiction collection Calamity and Other Stories, which was short-listed for the Story Prize. A MacDowell fellow, Daphne holds a PhD in modern and contemporary literature and an MA in creative writing, both from Boston University, and has received fellowships from the Christopher Isherwood Foundation, Yaddo, and the Bogliasco Foundation. She has taught literature and creative writing at Boston University, Skidmore College, Middlebury College, and Grub Street. Co-president of the Boston chapter of the Women’s National Book Association, she lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

My Thoughts:
Okay my review here will probably not do this book much justice! This novel is COMPLEX. It's got threads and threads of emotion and so much ...much. I cannot begin to describe how much this book just was awesome! It sucked me in and took hold of my mind for as long as there were words to read and pages to flip! It's about 352 pages of wonderfully flawed and emotionally powerful characters and story that makes you just delight in reading!

See I have this feeling that there are more in depth and more "wordy" reviews out there, but this
is what I want you to take from this review...This book was beautifully written and just plain gorgeous. I cannot begin to tell you guys how surprised I was by how much I really enjoyed it! It packs and oomph that you just have to read yourself to experience! I really do recommend it!

Blog Tour: Murder at Castle Rock

Synopsis:
As the manager and booking agent for Atlanta’s famous Castle Rock concert venue, Amelia “Ame” Grace is ready for the most exciting week of her career: she’s booked three shows and a live DVD-filming for the comeback tour of none other than the eighties Pop Rock Prince himself, Bobby Glitter! Before the rock star can take a bow on the first night, however, trouble steals the show as Castle Rock’s owner takes a deadly tumble from atop the venue’s rear tower. To make matters worse, the police suspect foul play—and all signs point to two of Castle Rock’s own employees. Ame is in a race against time to clear the names of her friends and uncover the truth before the killer decides it’s curtains for her too!

This book is the first in the Amelia Grace music industry thriller series and was the winner of the 2012 AJC Decatur Book Festival & BookLogix Publishing Services, Inc. Writing Contest.

Author Bio:
Aside from my friends and family, I’m passionate about two things: writing and live music. When I can bring the two together, my life feels complete. I hadn’t written fiction since 6th grade until 2011 (because, of course, I’d replaced this creative outlet with live music performance while I played the saxophone from 6th grade through the end of college). I was fortunate enough to win the 2012 AJC Decatur Book Festival & BookLogix Publishing Services, Inc. Writing Contest with my manuscript for “Murder At Castle Rock,” and as a result, the novel will be published in March 2013. Being published has been a dream of mine since I began writing stories about the Easter Bunny in kindergarten–so, needless to say, I am beside myself with joy over this opportunity! I am currently working on several other projects, including a sequel to “Murder At Castle Rock” and another mystery series that takes place in the art world.

My Thoughts:
Amelia is a vivid character with a real spark that makes you want to help her piece together what's caused her life to get tossed upside down. She's tough, smart, snarky, and fiercely loyal to her friends. She is almost instantly likable and easy to root for. What happens on the first night of Bobby Glitter's comeback show is horrible! She loses someone she considers a friend in such a strange way, that it causes her to slide into "Scooby Doo" mode.  I enjoy that when the going gets tough, she just gets tougher!

This book is intense and written so well that it's hard to put down! I may even have to say that this book was flaw-free! At one point I was sure I knew who was behind the murders, then nuh uh..not them..then oooh I know..rinse repeat! Awesome build of suspense and mystery! It had me flipping the pages through til the wee hours of the night. I like books a lot but I LOVE my sleep, so that should tell you something about this book!

From start to finish this book had me guessing! I was pretty much floored by the ending! I loved it! This is the start of a great series, featuring Amelia Grace and I will certainly be anticipating the next mystery!
