Readathon Update

So I am concluding my personal Readathon as of now. It's 7pm (ish) on Sunday and I started on Thursday morning. I clocked my time on a timer and was aiming for 24 hours total but I was being a bit casual about  it. I stopped at:
Not 24 hours but I'm gonna say it's close enough. During this time I managed to read these:

  • Sunrise on the Reaping
  • The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
  • The Lost Queen

I also have started on I Am Made of Death by Kelly Andrew. So I'm going to count this as a great success!

November Goals and Happenings

So it's November, the year is almost finished. What a crazy thought huh? Seems like just yesterday we were saying hello to 2012! I had such high hopes for this year! Some things were amazing and others ...well we will just call them "Ca Ca Doodie Heads" from here on out!  So in order to make my goal of 115 books read in 2012, I need to read 34 books in 2 months! Hmm..well with the rate that I'm going I'm gonna say that's quite a challenge. It almost seems damn near impossible to do!

So from here on out I'm gonna be a reading/reviewing/blogging machine! Haha, yes sir/ma'am, that is absolutely correct!

So for this to work I want to read at least 20 books in November. This would usually be impossible BUT.......(insert suspenseful music) I am going to be hosting my very own Birthday Read-a-Thon! It will be November 10-11th (my b'day is the 11th) and will be a casual (for you) read-a-thon. I'm gonna try to make it 24 hours of reading with a nap or two thrown in! I'm asking for those days off and I will use my time very wisely!

Watch out for my post about sign ups and stuff!

So look to the ----> Sidebar to watch my progress this month! Cheer me on if you see me flagging! Knock me upside my head if you see me being a lazy head! I give you permission!

Mystery & Suspense Reading Challenge 2011

So I'm trying to do Challenges for this upcoming year! I was going to take it easy but THIS one kinda called to me! I have noticed my blog and my reading tastes, have leaned towards YA and Horror. Nothing wrong with those genres but I want to try to diversify. So I am signing up for this one!

Details:
  • Timeline: 01 Jan 2011 - 31 Dec 2011
  • Rules: To read TWELVE (12) mystery & suspense novels in 2011 (12 is the minimum but you can read more if you wish!)
  • You don't have to select your books ahead of time, you can just add them as you go. Also if you do list them upfront you can change them, nothing is set in stone! The books you choose can crossover into other challenges you have on the go.
  • You can join anytime between now and the later part of next year.
  • At the beginning of Jan 2011, you will find a link to specific month to add your reviews. There will be a monthly prize too courtesy of the lovely Simon & Schuster - you must be signed up to the challenge and add the link to your review to be entered into the monthly prize draw.
If you want to join, click the button above ^ or click the button ---> on my sidebar!

48 Hour Book Challenge Updates

Well here I go! I'm not going to set a time goal on myself but I will try my best to read as much as I can this time! I've got my books laid out and ready and I'm excited! I'll do my best to check in every other hour or so with updates on how I'm doing, but I can't promise anything. I will keep my own log of my times/reading so I'll update it all at the end.

The Challenge goes from this morning til 7am Monday morning..I probably WON'T make it that far! LOL

I'm going to start at 7am CST. That gives me enough time to settle in, feed the kid, the cat, and myself and get started.

7:00A.M.-Starting Line-
Reading: The Art of Devotion by Samantha Bruce-Benjamin-100 pages read
9:00 A.M.-Break-did some housework and took a caffeine break :)
10:00 A.M.-Back to reading
Reading: The Art of Devotion-158 pages read
12:00p.m-The Art of Devotion-
---total hours read so far: 4 hours
1pm-
Finished The Art of Devotion and have moved on to Blood Oath. I now have to take myself away from the computer so I won't update for a while. I'll keep score in my handy dandy notebook and update later! See ya in a bit!
Happy Reading!

4:33pm-
I am back! Read some of Blood Oath then swapped out for First Daughter. Read about 100 pages of Blood Oath and 50 of First Daughter. Had to take a mini-break at 4:00 to snack and ingest more caffeine. So back to Blood Oath!
--total hours so far: (unless my calculations are stupid) 8 hours
7:00PM-
Still reading along. Going to take an hour break for Grey's Anatomy! Then I'll get right back on with the reading! :) See ya in an hour!
Hey I'm calling it a night :( I have a family thing that just came up. :( I guess I made it 9 hours (ish)
I had so much fun though! I read two books! Yay!

To everyone still going strong, WOOT to you! :) Happy Reading!!!!!!

Quick Review-The Great Hunt

This is the second book in the Wheel Of Time series by Robert Jordan. Rand and his friends are out to find the Horn of Valere, that was stolen by an evil man. I loved how Jordan writes! I love how much more character development we got to see. Each character is woven into the pattern, as it is called, and each plays an integral part in saving the world.

Rand's dilemma is intense. He has a calling but doesn't want to face it. He is definitely a tragic Hero type of character, but it's not overdone. He makes his choices and deals with the consequences. I'm reading this series to be a part of the challenge (look to the right sidebar) and I just cannot wait to delve deeper into this world!

The only problem I had with this was the length. This is an epic tale and the size of the book is HUGE! There were a few slow moments where I thought it could do with a bit of trimming, but that didn't kill the story. I will give this one a 4/5 rating and suggest this series (so far) to anyone that loves a good fantasy story!
