My Book is: 
  
This book has been featured on my page a few times already. I credit this book with igniting my love of reading. I think I first picked it up around the age of 11 or 12 and have read it about 6 times since then. Some of my all time favorite characters can be found between the covers of this book. I have yet to find a book that takes its place as my number one. It also introduced me to the apocalyptic genre. I have read many MANY Stephen King novels since this one and not a single one (in my opinion) hold a candle to The Stand. 

It will always be my favorite book.

Dead New World

Zombies aren’t mindless anymore.

Before the world fell into chaos, zombies existed only in the imagination. Now, there’re more dead walking the earth than living. Zombies move about freely, while humans are forced behind concrete barricades to stay alive.

A man known only as the Reverend has become a threat to the rebuilding United States. The leader of a powerful cult, the Reverend somehow controls the zombies, bending them to his will. He believes zombies are God’s latest creation, making humanity obsolete, and he wants to give every man, woman, and child the chance to become one. With the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, his army composed of both humans and zombies, he may well get his wish.

Best friends Holt and Ambrose went up against the Reverend once. Holt lost a foot and a zombie bit Ambrose… though he didn’t completely turn. He survived the virus, only to become a human-zombie hybrid, reviled by the living and unwelcome among the dead. When the Reverend kidnaps the woman Holt loves, the race is on to save her from a fate worse than death.

Holt and Ambrose must sacrifice everything to take down the Reverend and survive in this dead new world. But will they lose their souls in the process?

My Thoughts:

Somewhat good, somewhat of a let down. That's pretty much my summary.  I liked the idea, but the execution left me wanting more from this one. I really didn't get that attached to any of the main characters (especially Nancy.) I think if the story focused entirely on Ambrose and Holt and their fight against the Reverend, that would have been much more awesome!

The forced love interest seemed a bit much. Not all stories need a romance. I would have loved this one much more if it was a balls to the walls bro-fest of zombie killing action!

I really wanted to love this one. I really did. I'm not saying that it was entirely bad. There were moments when it was pretty good, and it was a fun read. It just wasn't the book I thought it would be.

I'm so very very VERY behind on Christmas stuff. I have basically done like 1% of the shopping. My kid has a few little things in his stocking and NOTHING yet under the tree. My sister and her family are coming over THIS Sunday (logistics make Christmas day an issue) so I have to not only shop but clean and cook! Luckily she's going to be bringing the ham and pasta salad. Her pasta salad is to DIE for and my Brother-in-Law makes a ham that would make Gordan Ramsay cry it's so tasty! 

Anywhoo, this is our tree: 

 Yes, that is the extent of my decorations! We are going to get some lights for the poor thing and I may get some actual ornaments. The colorful things are cupcake wrappers with holes cut out of the bottoms. The white things and that thing on the top is our attempt at making and angel out of tin foil. My son and I did that. Redneck Christmas decorating at it's finest! lol

 Also, this week my Secret Santa showed up. Now I've been told that there is another part of this coming, but for now this is what I got. The day before the books arrived I got this box from UPS. No name or any indication of what it was or where it was from. I open it up and it's a 4lb bag of peppermints. I love me some peppermints, but I think I will be enjoying some minty fresh breath til I'm 60! :) 

I'm going to be doing the Rory Gilmore reading challenge in 2015, so these two books will help a lot! I love it!

TV Love Thursday

I finally finally have gotten around to watching The 100 on the CW. Season 1 is finally up on Netflix and I mainlined the heck out of the show. I caught up with this season in like 1 day, so yeah..not only am I super dork, but I also have no life.

I also just recently finished watching The Gilmore Girls on Netflix (I have a solid relationship with Netflix it seems. My husband should be worried).

I really really loved it. I didn't watch it at all when it was airing, but I'm kind of glad I waited to watch it til now. I don't think I would have appreciated it when I was younger.

Seven whole seasons in like one month!

Anyways, with all my shows mostly now on their Winter break I'm out of options to watch. So anyone got any suggestions? What are you watching? 

Wishlist Wednesday

Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop where we will post about one book per week that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added (it's entirely up to you), that we can't wait to get off the wishlist and onto our wonderful shelves.


On the tippy top of my wishlist is this (actually a 2 part set) graphic novel:

 

Snowpiercer is the enthralling and thought-provoking post-apocalyptic graphic novel that inspired the critically acclaimed movie starring Chris Evans (Captain America, Fantastic Four). Originally published in French, this marks the first time that Snowpiercer will be available in English. In a harsh, uncompromisingly cold future where Earth has succumbed to treacherously low temperatures, the last remaining members of humanity travel on a train while the outside world remains encased in ice. The surviving community are not without a social hierarchy; those that travel at the front of the train live in relative luxury whilst those unfortunate enough to be at the rear remain clustered like cattle in claustrophobic darkness. Yet, things are about to change aboard the train as passengers become disgruntled...

I loved the film that was based on this series. It was bleak, it was dark, but there was a glimmer of hope in the end. I thought the acting was superb, and really would like to get my hands on these two. I bet it would make the movie even better!
