Bout of Books: Challenge (Literary Best Friend)

Auggie from Auggie Talk is hosting this challenge today!

Bout of Books Mini-Challenge
My Literary Best Friend!

Everyone has that one character. The character that they know they could relate to, get along with, have fun with, and laugh with. A literary BFF!

Tell us who your literary BFF is and why they're your always friend. What do you guys do together? What do you talk about? Get creative and let us know who your Literary Best Friend is!

My Best Friend (s)
Cat and Bones from the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. Dude, what's not to love about these guys? They are cray cray over each other, they are always finding themselves in interesting situations, but most importantly they are so adorable. I love their chemistry and wouldn't mind hanging out with them any day!

Reading Challenge-The Historian

So I'm a little late on starting this challenge, but I have been super busy with work, my house stuff, my son, and the read-a-thon going on this week that I just didn't get around to it! I still want to take part so I'm going to be a wee bit behind til I catch up!

Coffee and a Book Chick and Tedious & Brief thought of hosting a read along for those readers who have either read The Historian. Isn't that awesome of them?! I have had this book on my shelf for so long but never got around to reading it! This challenge is a great excuse to bust it out and open it again!

If you want to participate then click the button up top!

Schedule
Sept 20 to Sept 26 -- Chapters 1 through 14
Sept 27 to Oct 3 -- Chapters 27 through 39
Oct 11 to Oct 17 -- Chapters 40 through 48
Oct 18 to Oct 24 -- Chapters 49 through 66
Oct 25 to Oct 31 -- Chapters 67 through Epilogue

Mini Challenge-Fall Catch-Up Read-a-Thon

The Mini-Challenge was to visit the ALA website and visit the list of banned or challenged books and pick one that you have read or would like to read, then explain why. Here is my answer:

I've read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley last year. I loved it and was unnerved by it all at the same time! I didn't read it because it was banned. I read it because the subject matter was intriguing to me. It scared the crap out of me that people could become like the characters. The way the world was in the book, I could see happening in reality. THAT was scary to me.

Looking at the list, I can see that I've read several other banned books. The books I've read have all been what I would consider some of my favorites, which really saddens me.

I've read these banned books:
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck
The Lord of the Flies by William Golding
1984 by George Orwell
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck (one of my favorites!)
Charlotte's Web by E. B. White (WTF!? Why?)
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
Animal Farm by George Orwell
Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne (again..wtf!?)
Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (love)
The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien
The Awakening by Kate Chopin (love)

Book Buying Ban in September

So here is the deal, in September I will read ONLY my books that I currently own. I will not purchase any new books, borrow, or request. I have a huge TBR pile that I will try to whittle away in the month of September! I haven't counted because to be quite honest I am scared of how many I have so I will count as I go!

Click the piggy to visit the sign up page and set your own rules for September! :)

From Dusk Till Dawn Read-A-Thon Challenge

Reading Through Life
is hosting a mini-challenge for tonight! They asked the question: "Write a post describing your ideal comfort food meal to break your hypothetical 15 hour fast one of the nights of this week’s read-a-thon."

So here is my choice! If I had to gorge myself without fear of calories or money I'd pick SUSHI!
I'd eat this whole tray and probably order another one! This and a glass or two of Plum Wine or Saki and I'm set! :)

48 Hour Book Challenge

So I didn't read continusously and I didn't reach my personal goal of 12 hours of reading time BUT I did have fun! I got more reading done yesterday than I did in the month of May!! Woot! I'm going to cheer on the one's that are still going and read a bit more myself.
Maybe next year (or the next challenge) I'll be able to set up things a bit better. No distractions, a babysitter, and snacks! :)

Happy Reading to EVERYONE!
