Book Blitz: Come Back To Me

 Come Back to Me by Coleen Patrick
Publication date: March, 2013
Genre: YA Contemporary

Synopsis:
Whitney Denison can’t wait to start over.

She thought she had everything under control, that her future would always include her best friend Katie… Until everything changed.

Now her life in Bloom is one big morning after hangover, filled with regret, grief, and tiny pinpricks of reminders that she was once happy. A happy she ruined. A happy she can’t fix.

So, she is counting down the days until she leaves home for Colson University, cramming her summer with busywork she didn’t finish her senior year, and taking on new hobbies that involve glue and glitter, and dodging anyone who reminds her of her old life.

When she runs into the stranger who drove her home on graduation night, after she’d passed out next to a ditch, she feels herself sinking again. The key to surviving the summer in Bloom is unraveling whatever good memories she can from that night.

But in searching for answers, she’ll have to ask for help and that means turning to Evan, the stranger, and Kyle, Katie’s ex-boyfriend. Suddenly, life flips again, and Whitney finds herself on not only the precipice of happy but love, too, causing her to question whether she can trust her feelings, or if she is falling into her old patterns of extremes.

As she uncovers the truth about her memories, Whitney sees that life isn’t all or nothing, and that happy isn’t something to wait for, that instead, happy might just be a choice.

Guest Post and Promo: Broken Faith

Sci-Fi / Fantasy

Date Published: April 2, 2013

This was it. The moment Heaven and Hell would clash. But which unearthly being would
win? The Fallen Angel or the Hell Hounds?

Overtaken by fear, I close my eyes.

Kayson is a Fallen Angel who has spent decades running from the Hell Hounds
while searching for something that no one else believes can be so, not even God. Kayson is
determined to find a Blood Child. But when a hound finds Kayson first, he is sure his end has
come.

Falon, Alpha of the Hell Hounds, destroyer of the blood children, and devoted believer in
his master’s plan, is bound and determined to drag Kayson back to Hell with him.
Sabrina is a Vampire, a half-breed created from one of Lucifer’s original blood children.
After years of hiding, Sabrina’s fate changes when she finds Kayson barely alive. Against her
instincts, Sabrina saves him. Now she and Kayson are both marked by the Hell Hounds.
Emma is an ordinary human, whose only problem is making ends meet, and getting over
the hurt caused by her untrustworthy brother. Her everyday problems become supernatural ones
when she finds Kayson and Sabrina hiding in her parent’s backyard shed.

Kayson, Sabrina and Emma are unlikely allies, thrown together by chance to fight against
the most powerful creatures of the underworld in order to follow their world-changing quest.
But will the broken faith of one break the faith of all?

Author Bio:
Brandy Nacole resides in Arkansas where her imagination runs wild. Her obsession is reading but her
passion is writing. She put her dream of becoming a writer on the back burner and went to college
to become a psychologist. Three years after endless classes in a field she only felt half satisfied with,
Brandy picked up her pen once again and wrote the outline to Uniquely Unwelcome. She finished out
her degree in psychology but traded her dream of writing for the degree and put psychology on the back
burner. Whenever she’s not reading or writing, Brandy is spending time with her family and friends,
throwing around crazy ideas, and laughing through the crazy moments.

Excerpt:

When I turn, my heart skips a beat then begins pounding rapidly, as I’m surprised by a wet, pissed-off Sabrina standing right behind me.
“Jeez, do that again and you won’t have to worry about draining me dry. A nice heart attack will take care me.” I clutch my chest. Yeah, because that’s easing the race my heart is trying to win.
“Who ever said I was worried about draining you dry?” Sabrina says with a smug look on her face. She looks past me at the shed door. “How is he?”
Her fear for Kayson’s safety is obvious. For two people who just recently met, they sure do worry about one another a lot. And aren’t they supposed to be mortal enemies? None of this is making sense, but it doesn’t stop my jealousy from spiking.
“Still healing. It’s sad that he lost his powers when he fell.”
Sabrina nods in agreement but doesn’t say anything. Noting her bedraggled appearance, I’m intrigued to know what happened. “So, you try giving drowning a shot?”
Sabrina stares coolly back at me. “Why, need some pointers?”
Crossing my arms over my chest, I try mustering up an ounce of cool, biting back my retort I have ready on my lips. A truce has to be made between Sabrina and me if we are going to be in each other’s proximity.
“Look Sabrina, I know we haven’t got off to a good start, but heck, do you blame me?”
“Blame you for having a narrow-minded brain? Yes.”
I narrow my eyes at the beautiful vampire, whose now-clean dark blond hair reaches to her waist. Look what a good dunking does for a person. The wave of her hair frames her porcelain face, with eyes that hold a cold, calculating glint.

5 reasons I write Fantasy

So, what are five reasons I like to write Fantasy? How about I narrow this down to five words instead: Seriously, what’s not to love? I have been a fan of fantasy/paranormal books, movies, shows, and local myths since I was a little girl. My first memory of the fantasy genre was with Interview with A Vampire. I was four years old and my aunt, who’s just as big a fan as me if not more, was watching the movie on Halloween. I don’t remember every detail of course, but I remember watching it with her and being totally enthralled. From there it was R.L. Stine books, more Anne Rice, and so on.
I started writing when I was around 7 and while my writing wasn’t too farfetched with fantasy it was about a young boy and his pet alligator Sam. They had all sort of adventures together. Then as I aged, my writing became more involved with pure fantasy.
With Fantasy writing you can create the most unique of worlds and fill them with unique characters. There doesn’t seem to be any line of ‘not possible’ when creating a Fantasy book. Worlds can be made inside of worlds, powers can be limitless, battles and villains can be twisted, and romances can be epic.
With my Shadow World series, I wanted to reach these fantastic limitless possibilities. My main character, Racquel, is a hybrid that is made up of four different Shadow lines. She’s part lycan, witch, vampire, and shifter. Sounds complex doesn’t it. Well she is a complex character. She’s also an outcast. Her powers seem to be limitless and the Shadows not only consider her an abomination but they also fear her. I also incorporated the Greek Gods with their creations. Each line of Shadows has a Greek God that created them. If it wasn’t for my love of Fantasy and the limitless ideas that come from creating such books, then I wouldn’t have had the chance to share the story of a unique girl like Racquel.
With my Spiritual Discord series, I continued my grasp on the open possibilities. Broken Faith, which is written so that the story alternates points of view, is about a fallen angel named Kayson who is from the lower realm of Heaven. After being on the run since his fall, Kayson faces off with one of Hell’s hounds. After barely escaping with his life, Kayson is found by Sabrina, a vampire who is a half-blood child. This two unlikely beings work together to outsmart the very beings created to destroy them. Because of fantasy, I get the chance to share this battle of faith and good will.
Fantasy gives readers an escape outside the everyday life, much like most stories. The thing with Fantasy books, it’s something we just don’t experience on some level on a daily basis. Now if vampires and shape-shifters start skulking the world, then Fantasy writers are going to have to step it up and reach out for a new level of fiction. Until that day happens, readers and writers get to live out a world that isn’t our everyday hum bum routines and escape into a world filled with magic, love, rivals, and heart racing wonder.

Blog Tour and Guest Post: Enigma Black

Dystopian/ Sci-Fi
Date Published:11/21/12

When she was just seventeen, the course of Celaine Stevens' life was permanently altered with
the murders of her father, mother, and brother in one of a series of mysterious and violent
explosions occurring across the country. Struggling with picking up the pieces, she's haunted by
the memory of that day and her promise of retribution against those responsible for her misery.
But just as she seems to be getting her life back on track, an encounter with a mysterious stranger
promises her the vengeance she desires, ultimately turning the former target into the assassin.
However, as she soon learns, all choices come with consequences. And the consequence of her
choice threatens to destroy the very fabric of her being

Sara "Furlong" Burr was born on February 1, 1982, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. At an early age,
when it became apparent she wouldn't have the luxury of skating through life on her looks
or athletic prowess, Sara found her true passion in writing. While in fifth grade, she wrote
her first "novel"(whose name escapes her at the moment) about five friends who win a trip to
Hawaii. At ninety-something pages, it was her crowning achievement during her childhood (you
may now begin drawing your own conclusions on how sad a childhood Sara actually had).

After focusing much of her adult life on her family and career as a paralegal, Sara found the
voices in her head becoming unrelenting and she returned to her true passion. Currently, she's
working on the sequel to Enigma Black entitled Vendetta Nation. She's also tossing around ideas
for a chick-lit book about two ill-fated lovers (Lord, help her).

When she's not writing, Sara enjoys reading (pretty much a given), attempting to garden,
shopping (prerequisite to being a woman), and spending time with her family and friends who
somehow manage to tolerate her numerous disappearances propagated by infrequent bouts of
inspiration.

My Thoughts:

From the start this book has your interest and doesn't let go. I wanted to figure out what was going on. Celaine is a very original character. I can't quite put my finger on what my favorite part about her is, but she's awesome. I think it's because she's an intelligent, tough, yet humanly believable character. (Hope that makes sense?) I obviously (if you've been to my blog before) love a strong female main character and Celaine is certainly that!

The story was also incredible! Compelling is an understatement! It's got everything needed to make an addictive read! Intrigue, human drama, great story telling, and a wonderful cast..this book just doesn't disappoint!

Guest Post:

5 Reasons to Write Dystopian

I consider myself an eclectic writer in that the genres for the stories I’ve written tend to vary, from romance, science-fiction, dystopian, political thriller, paranormal, adult, young adult, and chick-it. In fact, my first novel, Enigma Black, is four of those aforementioned genres all rolled into one. But, if you were to hold me down, kicking and screaming, after careful thought, I would tell you that the increasingly-popular dystopian genre is by far my favorite type of novel to write. Why? I’m glad you asked because I just so happen to have five reasons why I prefer to write dystopian novels:

1. Better world building. A dystopian setting offers a literal world of possibilities. Whether your literary world is governed by anarchy, oppression, a disease that forces its inhabitants to live in seclusion, forced pairings, or generalized fear, the dystopian genre allows you more of a creative liberty (in my opinion) to multiply the darkest fears buried in the deepest recesses of your mind and bring them to life on paper.

2. More kick-butt female protagonists. From Katniss in The Hunger Games to Tris in Divergent, dystopian novels are rife with strong female main characters who make wonderful role models for young women, and have more honorable traits for others to emulate, such fearlessness and strength (as opposed to selfishness and a dependence upon others to save the day).

3. Because rainbows and sunshine get old. I, for one, don’t want to read a novel where everything is hunky-dory all of the time nor do I always want there to be a happy, sugar-coated ending. I want there to be tension; I want to feel a sense of impending doom amidst a world I can’t seem to figure out. And you get all of that in the dystopian genre, making it one of the more exciting genres to both read and write.

4. You can stack other genres on top of it. There is so much more you can work into a dystopian novel. You can have an epic romance, an alien invasion, a political thriller, or even a horror story (think zombies), all set within a dystopian environment. Really, the world’s your oyster when it comes to the dystopian genre, allowing you to be a tad more creative with less restrictions than some of the other genres impose.

5. Heroes rise from oppression. One of the things I love most about the dystopian genre is the ultimate banding together of those who oppose it. Alliances are made, heroes are born, and a darn good story usually ensues as a result.

Book Blast: Blood Destiny

BLOOD DESTINY SERIES
by Helen Harper

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bloodfire
Mackenzie Smith has always known that she was different. Growing up as the only human in a pack of rural shapeshifters will do that to you, but then couple it with some mean fighting skills and a fiery temper and you end up with a woman that few will dare to cross. However, when the only father figure in her life is brutally murdered, and the dangerous Brethren with their predatory Lord Alpha come to investigate, Mack has to not only ensure the physical safety of her adopted family by hiding her apparent humanity, she also has to seek the blood-soaked vengeance that she craves.
Bloodmagic
After escaping the claws of Corrigan, the Lord Alpha of the Brethren, Mack is trying to lead a quiet lonely life in Inverness in rural Scotland, away from anyone who might happen to be a shapeshifter. However, when she lands a job at an old bookstore owned by a mysterious elderly woman who not only has a familiar passion for herbal lore but also seems to know more than she should, Mack ends up caught in a maelstrom between the Ministry of Mages, the Fae and the Brethren.
Now she has to decide between staying hidden and facing the music, as well as confronting her real feelings for the green eyed power of Corrigan himself.
Bloodrage
Mack begins her training at the mages' academy in the hope that, by complying, the stasis spell will be lifted from her old friend, Mrs. Alcoon. However, once there, she finds herself surrounded by unfriendly adults and petulant teenagers, the majority of whom seem determined to see her fail.
Feeling attacked on all fronts, Mack finds it harder and harder to keep a rein on her temper. Forced to attend anger management classes and deal with the predatory attentions of Corrigan, the Lord Alpha of the shapeshifter world, her emotions start to unravel. But when she comes across a familiar text within the walls of the mages' library, which might just provide the clues she needs to unlock the secrets of her background and her dragon blood, she realises that her problems are only just beginning...
EXCERPT from Bloodfire:
I jogged along a small brook until it curved upstream towards the hills, then hopped over it and headed towards where I knew John would be. I finally found him crouched in a clearing, not far from the edges of the moor.
“You sound like an elephant running through those trees,” he complained.
I put my hands on my hips and raised an eyebrow. “Is that the thanks I’m getting for interrupting my run to come and investigate the over-energetic dalliances of some bunny rabbits?”
“That was one time.” He straightened up. His salt and pepper beard and bald head, along with the laughter lines around his eyes, hinted at the wisdom and experience contained within that smart mind of his. John had been alpha in Cornwall for thirty-two years, and was universally liked and respected by the pack, but that didn’t mean that I couldn’t still have a little fun.
“So what is it this time? Don’t tell me, I’ve got it, a sheep has gotten lost on the moor and its bleating is terrifying the farmers.”
He held out his palm. There was a small shiny black object resting in the middle. “I wish that’s what it was,” he said grimly. “Take a look at this.”
I picked it up from his hand and rolled it through my fingers. It was almost entirely weightless, and very smooth. There was also something else. I held it up to my ear and heard an odd chiming sound.
John looked at me sharply. “You can hear it?”
“Sure,” I said surprised.
“Describe it to me.”
“You mean you can’t hear it?” I was puzzled. Compared to my own hearing, John could hear a leaf drop from fifty paces away. “It’s like bells. Only not, it’s more continuous than that. Like a never-ending echo of a chime.”
He pursed his lips, clearly unhappy. “It’s a wichtlein’s stone.”
“A mine fairy’s? They knock three times and a miner drops dead?”
“You’ve been reading too many fairy tales. Wichtleins do sometimes hang around old mines and tease the men that work there, but more often than not they are true harbingers of evil. I don’t think one has been seen in the British Isles for more than a century.”
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Helen Harper is an English teacher currently living abroad in Malaysia. As a long time reader of urban fantasy, she finally bit the bullet and began to develop her own series of novels.
Helen has always been a book lover, devouring science fiction and fantasy tales when she was a child growing up in Scotland. "I always loved the escapism provided by those genres," states Helen. "No matter how bad life gets, you can always find a route out, even if only temporarily, in the pages of a good book."
The growth of urban fantasy fascinated her - the mix of reality and fantasy along with strong heroic female characters appealed from the very beginning, and inspired her to write her own.
the school.
the unexpected.
Together Rachel and Joel uncover the truth behind what is
the newstead project.
Book Trailer
Author Melanie Schulz
I live in Upstate New York with my husband and three children, where I’ve pretty much been planted my entire life.  Which is fine, because it’s beautiful here. My only complaint is that most people assume that New York means NYC, which it doesn’t. There. I’ve done my part in exposing the truth.
Truth. The truth is I’m not a writer; storyteller maybe, but not a writer. It wasn’t something I spent years dreaming of, or even what I went to school for. I’m a nurse. I love being a nurse. So why write? I don’t know. I do know when it started, though. September 3, 2010. I know this because I nature journal, and on that day Joel made it into my notes. I guess that’s fitting. Someone like him needed to be birthed out in the woods.
If you were to meet me, and I hope someday you do, you would not connect me with this story. I’m a wife, a mother, a nurse. The person who wrote this should’ve been a guy, first off, secondly he should be some militaristic strategist; that’s who you’d expect to see if you were to come to a book signing, not me. But I’m there, in every line. So if I don’t have the good fortune to meet you in person, I hope to see you in THE NEWSTEAD PROJECT.
