Quick Review-A Black Tie Affair
So this is a cute romantic story that I felt was a good read. It was fast paced and fun. The characters were like-able and interesting and the romance was ..well romantic! I loved the cover art too! I know that's not important in the grand scheme of things, but still I thought it was cute.
I also enjoyed the mystery aspect of this one. Not only do you get the sexy romance but you also have that edge of mystery too! I read in another review that this is a good "soaking in the tub" book and I would so agree! This is certainly not a cerebral novel but it is fun brain candy! I'd definitely suggest this one!
Oh and check out this trailer too!

Quick Review-Size Eight in a Size Zero World
It's really hard for me to write negative reviews, because well I want to be a nice person. I didn't HATE this book, that's such a harsh word, but I didn't like it either. I love a good love story. I love a good chick lit book. This book fell flat for me.
Lindsay is the mother of two children, whom seem like great kids. Her husband isn't very supportive or emotionally responsive to her. He treats her like a slave and doesn't interact with their children. Every single scene he is in we are reminded of how douchey he is. Okay we get it. Her marriage is doomed and she is emotionally unfulfilled. So? She has a job. She has connections and friends. GET A DIVORCE! Yeah the player in your apartment building is hot, but he's just that. A player! Even after she is shown many many MANY signs that he is not that great of a person, she still is smitten. BUT my main problem was that Lindsay just became incredibly selfish. She seems like a good mother in the beginning but gradually becomes this self-involved mushball. She lets her husband walk all over her and then let's Mr. Studly walk all over her too. She does things that as a mom made me cringe. Yeah, us Mommies need to let loose and go wild! After all we aren't dead, but we also have responsibilities that are more important. Lindsay seems to let the men in her life control her. I was hoping by the end she would see that she could support herself and be a strong woman, but that was not what we were given. The end of the book it seems like she's morphed into another character and one that I didn't really like.
I'm sorry I know this is coming out really harsh, but I'm being honest. I didn't enjoy this book. The characters never really grabbed me. Just when Lindsay seem to be developing as a person, she backslides and disappointed me. By the end of the book I was sad by what she had become. I'm not against being sexually extroverted, but by the end of the book Lindsay was acting like a fool.
Maybe it just wasn't a good choice for me. I hold no ill-will towards Ms. Cagen. I seem to be one of only a few, that didn't enjoy the book. To be fair and give a balanced review, I've found a few more positive reviews for this book. Have a look for yourself.

Grrr...Technical Difficulties
Grr! Okay peoples, my monitor is doing some funky stuff right now. I believe it is dying a slow, sad death right now and I am not sure when exactly it will die. Sooo... I figured I'd post this as a warning. I really really needed this *sarcasm* at this time in my life. Our car is in the shop, our loaner car was taken back by the owner because she needed it, and because of this our finances are strapped. Yay! Another expense to add to the pot! Woot! *snortle*
Anyway, as long as it works I'll keep updating, but if you do not see me around the blogosphere for a few days then you know what happened.
I really seriously will go insane with insanity if I do not has my internets.

Blog Tour-Gringa in a Strange Land
About Gringa in a Strange Land
Gringa in a Strange Land brings back the exhilarating and confusing time of the “counterculture” in the early 1970’s.Erica Mason, an American woman living in Mexico, is torn between working to become an artist and the lure of the drug culture.
Set mostly in the colonial city of Merida in the Yucatan peninsula, the story also moves among Mayan ruins, laid-back beaches and the cities of Belize and Oaxaca.
A host of bohemian expats and Mexicans, and the complex character of Mexico itself, infuse this portrait-of-the-artist-as-a-young-American, culminating in an unexpected resolution.
My Review:
Sadly I couldn't get into this one. I do not think that it was the right book for me so I will not give it a rating. I will pass on writing a review and link a few blogs that have also reviewed it, both good and bad, so that you can make up your own mind. I do not wish to offend the writer Linda Dahl, but I just wasn't the target audience for Gringa.

What are you Reading?
Well the last two weeks have definitely been a bust for me (reading/life-wise) so I can't say I actually completed a book yet. I'm ALMOST (like this () much) done with The Eye of the World, so yay! But I have ambitions for this week.
I got a few quick looking reads in the mail so I'll put those on my list. Here goes:
To Read:

Book Spotlight-Egg-Larva-Pupa-Woman
“Egg-Larva-Pupa-Woman is about the metamorphosis of a young girl into a woman of courage, juxtaposed with the evolution of the country she loves but doesn’t understand…”
“This book isn’t content with just being a love story, or a story about the relationships women have throughout their lives. It is an amazing read on a culture and world many will never experience. Beautifully written and full of detail and mystery…”
The story kicks off in the early 1950s when two orphan sisters are separated against their wish because their aunt cannot afford to feed two mouths. The first sister is weak and wilts away but the second, Nkiru, digs deep and keeps on walking.
In the wake of her country’s independence from British rule, Nkiru meets an aspiring diplomat with radical political views and hopes that love will put her life back on course. However, love only complicates things. Her new husband asks for more than she knows how to give and the past is filled with shameful secrets that threaten to erupt.
The plot thickens as Nkiru climbs the ladder of life, fearing the sudden loss of all that she has toiled for (her children’s love, her husband’s trust and the successful business she built out of nothing) all because of a single fatal mistake. At the same time, Nigeria descends further into conflict and corruption as a single foundational flaw leads to a brutal war and lingering mistrust.
Eventually Nkiru finds the courage to confront the past and seek forgiveness for an unpardonable sin. This is the only path to peace – both for Nkiru and her beloved country, Nigeria.
Set in the politically charged colonial and post-independence Nigeria (as well as the vibrant capitals of Uganda, Sierra Leone and Britain), Egg-Larva-Pupa-Woman is a novel that fearlessly chronicles the history of Africa’s most populous and complex country whilst tackling big themes such as ethnic identity, racial discrimination, domestic violence, gender equality, endemic corruption, entrepreneurship and self actualisation, as well as universal themes such as love, mother-daughter relationships, betrayal and forgiveness.
Through a language of passion, poetry and deceptive simplicity, we see sisters and daughters, mothers and wives who metamorphose over time, juxtaposed with a nation’s fight for freedom, fall from grace and pursuit of an elusive destiny.

Online Casino Planet-Ad
I love the way this site is organized. They have it broken down so everything is easy to find and neat! Now I know exactly where to go if I ever plan on going to ANY casino! They even have ratings for specific ones so you know what you're getting when you plan a trip!
Pass along the link to Online Casino Planet to anyone you know that loves a night at the casino!

Repairpal.com-Ad
Seriously they have a HUGE amount of information about cars on this website! Say you need to get a tune up, or an oil change, or you need car specific info (say you have an Acura Integra) all you have to do is type in the name of your car and voila!!
Oh and another cool thing about this site, is that they have directories for specific states, cities, etc. Say for instance you live in Houston TX and wanna find out about auto repair shops, just type in Houston auto repair and there you go! A list of all the shops and even some with reviews! Pretty handy if you ask me!
This could have honestly saved my family a good deal of time searching through the phone book and calling up friends for recommendations! All the info is there and laid out for you! Sweet!

Blog Tour-Veracity
Description
Harper Adams was six years old in 2012 when an act of viral terrorism wiped out one-half of the country's population. Out of the ashes rose a new government, the Confederation of the Willing, dedicated to maintaining order at any cost. The populace is controlled via government-sanctioned sex and drugs, a brutal police force known as the Blue Coats, and a device called the slate, a mandatory implant that monitors every word a person speaks. To utter a Red-Listed, forbidden word is to risk physical punishment or even death.
But there are those who resist. Guided by the fabled "Book of Noah," they are determined to shake the people from their apathy and ignorance, and are prepared to start a war in the name of freedom. The newest member of this resistance is Harper -- a woman driven by memories of a daughter lost, a daughter whose very name was erased by the Red List. And she possesses a power that could make her the underground warriors' ultimate weapon -- or the instrument of their destruction.
In the tradition of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale, Laura Bynum has written an astonishing debut novel about a chilling, all-too-plausible future in which speech is a weapon and security comes at the highest price of all.
Wow, this is certainly a thinker. It wrapped me up and brought me into a very terrifying possible future. I was lost in the story and felt like I was right there in the action. The characters were well written and Laura Bynum does very well with setting up a potential future without being far-fetched. There were a few instances where I would have enjoyed a bit more insight, like I would have loved more time with Ezra and John. There could have been more of a back story with them, showing how they got to where they were. That was the only part that I felt could have been done better. Other than that there isn't much I would change. The book itself is brilliant in that its a scary but fascinating read.

Quick Review-Eternal on the Water
Eternal on the Water by Joseph Monninger is one of those books that takes you by complete and utter surprise. You kinda know what you're getting yourself into (the back cover gives you a clue) but you don't really know how it will EFFECT you. My opinion is that if you finish this book without having to wipe away a tear just once, then you my friend are cold!
This is a story of love at first sight in the truest form. A finding of soul mates and taking life as it comes. The characters are brilliantly written and the story flows so very well. This book will keep you flipping the pages and hoping a miracle happens, because you just know you'll be a crumpled up heap if it doesn't. I won't spoil the ending but it's touching and wonderful and..okay so I'm gushing a little bit, but this book deserves it! This was a joy to read and is going on my shelf and staying there.

Blog Tour-Wench
About the Book:
Situated in the free state of Ohio, Tawawa House offers respite from the summer heat. A beautiful, inviting house surrounded by a dozen private cottages, the resort is favored by wealthy Southern white men who vacation there, accompanied by their enslaved mistresses. Regular visitors Lizzie, Reenie, and Sweet have forged an enduring friendship. They look forward to their annual reunion and the opportunity it affords them to talk over the changes in their lives and their respective plantations. The subject of freedom is never spoken aloud until the red-maned, spirited Mawu arrives and voices her determination to escape. To run is to leave behind the friends and families trapped at home. For some, it also means tearing the strong emotional and psychological ties that bind them to their masters. When a fire on the resort sets off a string of tragedies, Lizzie, Reenie, and Sweet soon learn tragic lessons, that triumph and dehumanization are inseparable and that love exists even in the cruelest circumstances as they bear witness to the end of an era.
My Review:
This book was raw and brutally honest about a time in history that a lot of people would like to forget. These women were used and abused, but they didn't let their spirits break. There are so many things I could praise about this book, from the beautiful characterization to the near flawless story. These women never seem like characters. They seem like living breathing people that you want to help. I was moved to tears, literally pouring down my cheeks (thank god my husband wasn't home) while reading this SEVERAL times! Needless to say that I was impressed by the writer's story and her abilities. Dolen Perkins-Valdez has written a wonderful book and has created beautiful and heartbreakingly real characters.

Teaser Tuesday-Wizard's First Rule
Check out Teaser Tuesdays from Should Be Reading. TEASER TUESDAYS asks you to:
Grab your current read.
Let the book fall open to a random page.

My teaser is coming from my current read Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind.
"We can't," he answered firmly. "We need them both. Remember when Zedd gave me the sword? He said he wanted me to get us across the boundary. He said he had a plan. He hasn't told me what that plan is."

Lord of the Rings Read a Long Pt. 1
When did you first hear of The Hobbit? I do believe it was in high school. A friend of mine was really into Fantasy and mentioned Tolkien. He suggested I read them all. Did I listen? Nooooo. Stupid me!
What made you decide to join the read-a-long? I have all of the books on my shelf and I have always wanted to read them. I just kept putting it off. I saw the challenge and decided that it was the right time!
Have you read it before? If so tell us about that experience. Nope, I'm a newb to the world of Hobbits!
If you’re new to The Hobbit, do you have any preconceptions going into it? Not really. I always wanted to read the series so I'm just pretty excited!
J.R.R. Tolkien pretty much founded the modern fantasy genre. So let’s take a moment to think about the genre as a whole; have you always loved fantasy? Or perhaps you still feel rather skeptical towards the whole idea of wizards and dwarfs and magic? What was your introduction to the genre? I can't remember the first fantasy novel I read but I would say it was when I was maybe 10 or 12. I have always liked the genre.
Do you have a certain plan for reading it? A few pages a day, spacing it out over the month? Or are you just going to race through it? Let whimsy decide? I started on Jan. 1st and devoured it! I'm done! I can't wait to read the next one! :)

Mini Review-Wrongsized
Okay this was a super quick read but very funny! I read it in pretty much under an hour. This book is about a guy who has a cush job, but suddenly finds himself unemployed and confuddled, after some cutbacks. He can't get some of the jobs he knows he can do. He has no formal training, but he does know his stuff. He signs up with a temp agency after months of being idle, and hilarity ensues! He gets matched with so many random jobs along the way and each chapter highlights that job. This is a humorous read and fun. It's not going to win any awards but it was cute and I enjoyed it.
What are you Reading?
Books to read this week:
The Eye of the World-Robert Jordan (this is for the WoT Challenge)
Mrs. Dalloway-Virginia Woolf-i gave up on this one jan. 6-i just couldn't get into it :(

Review-The Forest of Hands and Teeth
After hearing all of the buzz about this book via other blogs, I was itching to get my hands on it! My sweet dear husband got it for me for Christmas this year! Yay me! I immediately put aside my other reads in order to dive right into Forest. I won't spoil the ending for anyone but this book did NOT disappoint! I love a good zombie story and this was a GREAT one! Carrie Ryan brought fresh ideas to the genre. Let's face it, most zombie stories are all "Brains....brains..." and heroes shooting guns and stuff like that, but not this one!
Mary is one very well written character. From the start you understand her actions and can sympathize with her desires and drives. She longs for something else than just plodding along in life and watching the fence. She's confused and ashamed at these feelings and you FEEL for her. You really do! It's been a long time since I've been able to read a character and feel as if I could be them! (Hope that makes sense?) That is why I loved this book! Not a single character felt as if it was a "filler" character.
Carrie Ryan has written a book that I will certainly read again. I was not disappointed in this one. The Forest of Hands and Teeth gets a solid rating of 4.5 (broken down below)
