Blog Tour: Good Intentions

Blurb:
Scitech Labs was handsomely commissioned by the United States Military to design a revolutionary serum that would create the ultimate soldier.  If successful, the soldier would have an increase in endurance, strength, awareness and overall speed. They would become the true super soldier. That's if everything went according to plan.

Scitech put its best scientists on the project and gave them a time limit to complete the job or else. With the pressure on and the stakes high, Vincent Masterson and his team put everything they had into the project. . Everything was looking hopeful until an experiment went horribly wrong. The scientists mutated their specimen's DNA, turning it into something monstrous. Now, life as we know it will never be the same.

As it stands, the only thing that can save them is one of the two things they should be running from.

Can the human race survive being caught in a bloody war between two vicious predators?

My Thoughts:
Zombies are my all time favorite monsters followed up by Vampires as a very close second!  So when I read that this was a zombies vs. vampires book I was very pleased! So very curious too as this idea could have been AWESOMEBALLS or it could have fell flat on it's face!

So the start of this book is quite slow, but in a good way. It is kind of like watching a car wreck, but instead of cars it's the world. You are viewing the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. You see how it happens from the start and what humans do to try to stop it, and in the process muck it all up and create an even BIGGER problem!

There is SOOO much going on that you are never allowed to get comfortable. You never get a chance to "rest" and that is such a great feeling when you are reading a book like this. I want to be uncomfortable and antsy! I want to feel like I have to keep looking over my shoulder, and that is exactly what this book delivers!

I simply cannot wait for book two!

Promo Blitz: Resolutions

Blurb:

DEA agent Eve Taylor has had her fill of alpha males. When Resolutions’ operative and former lover, Dillon “Mac” McKenna, threatened her hard-earned independence, she ran. On a mission to gather evidence against a Colombian drug-lord, Eve discovers the drug-lord is helping terrorists plan an attack on American soil. Before she can escape with the vital information, she’s captured and comes face to face with her mortality…

As a teen, Mac watched his family fall apart after his mother died doing dangerous U.N. work. The possibility of losing Eve to a mission ignited an overwhelming need to protect her. When he forced her to choose him or her job, she walked away. Two years later, it seems all his nightmares have come true and he’s tasked with rescuing her from a Colombian prison. Mac has never stopped loving Eve, but does he dare risk his heart when he’s so terrified of losing…

On the run, Mac and Eve must learn to trust each other again in order to stay alive.

Excerpt:

Beefy hands wrenched Eve awake from a fevered sleep, pulled her from the cell, and shoved her into a musty-smelling hallway. I’m being moved? A guard pushed her with one hand, keeping a tight grip on an AK-47 rifle with his other.

Her shoulder throbbed in perfect cadence with the pains shooting through her broken wrist, and she had one badass headache from being punched in the face a few too many times. Using her good hand, she walked fingers across one cheek, then the other. The right side was totally numb. Her eye had swollen shut, and she couldn’t see a damn thing out of it. She ran her tongue across her teeth and tasted the tart, copper flavor of blood. Three teeth loose. Well, at least they’re still in place.

In spite of the relentless pain, she stayed determined to survive whatever Mendoza dished out. She wasn’t a quitter. No, sir. Duncan Falls, Iowa didn’t grow quitters. Eve ignored the constant ache in her ribs, courtesy of a guard’s overzealous kick, and took in a deep breath. She willed herself to stay alert, to keep pushing. Escape. Third times the charm.

Eve slapped the guard’s dirty hand. “Hey, Pedro, stop being so damned pushy. Where we going anyway? We got a hot date I’ve forgotten about?”

He looked puzzled then shoved her again.

“Don’t understand English, do you, Diego? Bet you understand this.” Eve drove her elbow into the guard’s face. Thick rubbery cartilage gave, and she whooped triumphantly.

Blood squirted from his nose and he screamed.

Eve stepped back. “Yep, I’m pretty sure you understand that.”

Unable to grab the guard’s assault rifle, she clutched her injured shoulder, and took off in a slow jog, no longer able to push any harder.

Her escape was short lived.

The Z&C Mysteries are a fresh, unique series, where the mother and daughter can kick butt in heels if they have to. The situations can get very scary, but nothing is ever too gory. The reading is clean, while also vibrant. It's just plain fast-paced fun.

About the Authors
Claire has a Masters in Journalism, was Editor for Eye Witness Magazine and can't make Irish Rum Cookies to save her life. Zoey has dabbled in modeling, is a licensed real-estate agent, seeks for treasures (great and small), and is often underestimated.

Together, Zoey and Claire are a mother-daughter mystery solving duo. During their downtime, they dream of island men whisking them away.

(Zoey and *Claire are also fictional, and their authors are a real life mother and daughter who use their names as pseudonyms. Don't tell them that, though.)

*Award-winning author, Molly Snow, writes under Claire Kane.

Excerpt 1
The 1980’s Datsun bucked and sputtered as Zo slowed and then parked the car. “It’s not the greatest, but neither was my van.”

Claire gave a sympathetic smile. “That Max guy is so nice letting you borrow it today. I just hope it doesn’t keel over while we’re using it.”

“True that.”

In the distance to their left, was an old and rusty industrial location. To their right were acres of overgrown wilderness. There was a tall, black iron gate sitting a few feet away, guarding the overgrowth. They walked to the gate along a cracked and uneven sidewalk, watching their step along the way.

Claire craned her neck to look up to the top of the rust-speckled barrier. Nothing else was in sight but the monstrous gate and chaotic green growth. She was not feeling optimistic, but decided to try to look like whatever her mom wanted to show her was wonderful in some sort of way.

“Surprise!” Zo smiled with great energy.

“You bought Stephen King’s fence?”

“Well, and a bit of land.”

“How much land was that again?”

“Approximately eighty acres. It is described as a hill.”

Claire couldn’t hold back the look of feeling further disappointment, as her eyebrows raised and her lips stayed zipped tightly.

“Oh, now settle down. This is exciting. I haven’t even tromped through this land yet. You and I together will be the very first time. That is why I told you to wear long pants and sturdy shoes.”

“You don’t even know what it all looks like? Mother? This is on the east side of the river: the downtrodden, worse than ghetto, poor and unkempt area. Nobody ever has reason to travel to this side of town. It’s a ‘no no.’ There are even horrible urban ghost stories about this area.” So much for the “wonderful” pretense. She immediately felt guilt wash over her, knowing that Penny and the others already did a thorough job of making her mother feel miserable.

“Yes, I admit, I have heard those stories, too. And I do believe in ghosts, but I thought you didn’t, my dear.”

Claire cocked her head. “You’re right. I don’t, but—” She stopped herself, not wanting any more regrets.

Zo unzipped a compartment to her faux-snakeskin purse to reveal an old, large key. “This is it, Claire. Let’s have some fun.”

My Thoughts:

This was an adorable Mother and Daughter mystery! It was light and fluffy and fun. JUST what I needed! It's a short book, but a LOT of events are packed into it. I really liked Zoey and Claire and the story was great! The only real negative I can think of is the length. I wanted more, dangit! I'm really glad that this is the first in a planned series! It means I can look forward to more of this dynamic duo!

Promo with Excerpt: Pro Resumes Made Easy

How To/Non Fiction/Career
Date Published: 9/30/2012

Written by a professional resume writer of 15 years, this book takes you through the step by step process to write your resume and cover letter like the Professionals do it – at a tenth of the cost!  Contains samples and examples to assist you along the way, along with a free resume critique with every book sale.

Excerpt:
Chapter 1 – Some basics
What is the purpose of a resume?  If you ask most people, they will tell you it is “to get a job interview.”  Yes, that’s right it is designed to get you a job interview.  But a resume is also designed to sell you, or generate enough interest in you to make the reader make contact and schedule a meeting time.  Your resume has had enough impact, that out of the hundreds of resumes a recruiter receives in their email inbox daily, yours has stood out.
If you’ve heard the saying that recruiter’s look at most resumes for between 5 and 20 seconds, it’s true.  Add to that equation the fact that resumes are now received via email inbox, and you need to consider the fact that this means that the top third of your first page will be the first thing the recruiter sees when they click open the attachment.
I’ll be running you through the step by step process I use when writing a resume.
My resumes are written in a way that they;
  1. Catch the recruiters eye immediately
  2. Give them a reason to keep on reading
  3. Stand out by writing them in a way that only 5% of all job applicants use effectively; and
  4. Works with scanning software sometimes used by recruiters
  5. Makes the reader want to meet with you!

Andrea Drew
Andrea started her professional resume writing career in 1998, forming a professional resume writing service online for all professions.
In April 2011, she successfully transitioned the business over to new management, in order to focus on her specialty niche, IT professionals, Executives and Managers.
Why?
Well, in Andrea's words "Executives and Managers are accustomed to collaborating to produce cutting edge results, and so are professional in their dealings enabling a unique and top class result and enabling me to write even better career marketing documents."

This doesn't mean that if you are not an executive or Manager she can't help you.  It simply means that unless you understand this is an investment and will involve some work on your part (providing the information needed) then it's probably best you look elsewhere that's all.

Promo: Open the Mind, Exercise the Soul

New Age
Date Published: 10/2012

Open the Mind Exercise the Soul is the first book from internationally known psychic medium John Cappello. It links psychic ability with personal experiences and intellectual thought as it answers many questions about the relationship between religion, philosophy, and science with this controversial subject. This is an intelligent discussion offering a fresh, new look at psychic abilities.

Have you ever wondered ...
Why do psychic abilities exist?
What is the proof?
What is our soul's role in using them?
How do I access my gifts?
Can we connect with crossed-over loved ones?
What is really going on?
Open the Mind Exercise the Soul will answer these questions and more. Explored with real-world examples and new techniques, it boldly challenges you to examine your own abilities and receive clarity. While guiding you through the development of your own psychic gifts, you will learn to embrace experiences you may have questioned and relate to the author as he discusses his own path in metaphysics. For practicing psychics or beginners, the book combines historical information with spiritual exercises to assist you in gaining insight.

John Cappello
John Cappello, author of the 3 time award winning book Open the Mind Exercise the Soul, is a Psychic, Medium, and Visionary. While he has been working professionally in metaphysics since 1997, John has been interested in psychic ability and the study of existence "beyond the physical" since he was a child. John's has an extensive knowledge of Western Astrology and tarot, but his best work is done without the use of any tools.
Through the use of his Psychic abilities, John can provide a detailed description of past, present, and potential future situations and events. As a Medium, he is also able to bring forth loved ones who have crossed over. John sees a Visionary as a person who works to serve mankind through a vision of the future. His visionary work is about producing programs to help others and teaching others how to develop and use their own intuitive gifts.
Psychic Known for his detail and accurate descriptions of situations, John's psychic work is very exciting. He uses all of his psychic abilities to tune into a person's energy field which gives him accurate and nuanced information about his client. This energy can be from the past, the present, or even a future event. By meditating on the person prior to a reading, the energy received lies around main issues and the reasons for the reading. Learn more about John's psychic work.
Medium
Mediumship is the aspect of John's work which is the most controversial. However, it is the area offering the most comfort to clients. The phenomenon of receiving information from crossed-over loved ones is the most compelling area of psychic work. The proof of life after death and the validation of information creates an environment for healing among those still living. This is the area in which John's work excels. Learn more about John's mediumship work.
Visionary
John offers workshops to teach others how to use their own psychic abilities. He has been very successful with his teaching techniques helping to develop many other successful psychics. The workshops include developing clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, intuition, psychometry, and mediumship. Each workshop is unique and gives a person perspective on each of these areas. Learning techniques to tap into one's natural abilities and the necessary encouragement to practice is an important element in the workshops.

Blog Tour: The Silver Strand

  silver strand
The Silver Strand
Ever since twelve year old Isabelle Tresdon’s silver strand of hair sprouted, it’s been nothing but trouble: bleeding pink dust and sparking like a firecracker. Refusing to be known as the girl with the freaky, grandma hair, she wishes it never grew and the hair withers and tarnishes. The only problem is, the strand is Isabelle's source of magic, and she can transform particles of energy into matter. It's also her ticket into Mastermind Academy, a secret school inside the earth’s core. Five days remain before the strand drains her magic and life, forcing Isabelle to enter into a deal with two trickster Masterminds to save it. But what she doesn't count on is there is more at stake than just her life. The Silver Strand, a MG Fantasy Adventure for 9-12 year olds, is book 1 in the Mastermind Academy Series.

Excerpt

“One thing before we go.” Esme snatched her bracelet back. “I’ll need this while we travel to Agartha. Then it’s all yours. Just don’t play with it or try to fly it, ok?”

“Fly it?” said Isabelle, shooting Esme a doubtful glance.

“Yes, fly it.” Esme pressed the crystal on the bracelet. Sparkles the size of pin pricks popped and sizzled. Tiny metal panels sprouted from it, expanded to the size of a computer screen and curved inward. They clinked together to form a sphere about two and a half meters diameter. A portal slid open on one side.

Whatever this strange metallic bubble was, it had to be one of the coolest things Isabelle had ever seen. It emitted a humming noise, which rattled in her chest, and the metal rippled at her touch.

“This marvelous gadget is known as a Mesura,” boasted the cat. “It is fuel free, and propelled through the air using anti-gravity and crystal-based technology.”

Esme butted in. “English translation: it’s a flying machine.”

Boldrick sniffed and pranced inside.

“Wow.” Isabelle circled the craft. Who’d have thought such a thing would pop out of a bracelet? The idea of flying one made her dizzy with excitement.

Sadly, the Mesura wasn’t filled with cool computer screens and high tech gadgets like the flying craft’s she’d seen in movies. The only exciting thing inside the cabin were the transparent, silvery walls, and the flexible metal in the seats that curved around her body.

“Invisibility shield on,” Esme commanded in a pilot voice.

The metal rippled in response. Isabelle didn’t notice anything different, but it must have worked because a poor sparrow flew into the Mesura with a thud. Dazed and confused, it chirped and flew into the tree above.
louisa

Author L.J. Clarkson One thing you need to know about LJ Clarkson is that she tells BIG lies. She tells everyone that she gave up her career as an Environmental Engineer and Project Manager to write full time. But that's not entirely true. Ten percent of the time she sleeps in. Fifteen percent of her day, she spends surfing the internet, researching for new books and her business. Ok, fine. Two percent is for research. But she's only admitting it so she doesn't end up like Boldrick. For eighteen point seven five percent of her day, she runs her promotional and support site for authors, called Indicated (www.indicated.com.au). The rest of her time involves writing, reading, watching movies and TV, walking her dogs and falling asleep whenever her boyfriend talks technical computer lingo. Truthfully, she hates early mornings, mondays, grammar (yuck! just ask her poor editor!), broccoli and cleaning. If you would like to drop her and line and let her know what you think of the book, she would love to hear from you. Just not before 8:30am in the morning.

My Thoughts:
Okay this was a fun, cute, and sweet read. It was quick, and a little fluffy (not that there is anything wrong with that!) I really liked this story and Isabelle is an awesome character! She's the ordinary girl that turns out to be extraordinary! What girl hasn't wished for that?!

The plot at times doesn't seem to be completely new, but it's written in a way that makes an "already done" plot seem fresh and new! I think any middle grade reader would love this! A great start to a new series!

The WATERFELL Contest Extravaganza!

Waterfell banner

Welcome to the mother of all Waterfell contests, where you can win 400 gorgeous swag packs of tattoos, signed bookmarks and bookplates, as well as one of THREE iPad Minis. Yes, you read that right--in addition to the 400 prize packs, there will be THREE opportunities to make a super-awesome IPAD MINI yours!

First, a little about WATERFELL...

THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE QUEEN

Nerissa Marin hides among teens in her human form, waiting for the day she can claim her birthright—the undersea kingdom stolen from her the day her father was murdered. Blending in is her best weapon—until her father's betrayer confronts Nerissa and challenges her to a battle to the death on Nerissa's upcoming birthday—the day she comes of age.

Amid danger and the heartbreak of her missing mother, falling for a human boy is the last thing Nerissa should do. But Lo Seavon breaches her defenses and somehow becomes the only person she can count on to help her desperate search for her mother, a prisoner of Nerissa's mortal enemy. Is Lo the linchpin that might win Nerissa back her crown? Or will this mortal boy become the weakness that destroys her?

A sneak peek into WATERFELL...
"I’ve never wanted anything more than this moment. I smile and he does, too. He bends toward me, his fingers pulling upward drawing my face toward his. Lo smells of salt and sea, and everything else that I love about the ocean. His eyes are open and are a deep mesmerizing blue, staring deep into mine as if he’s searching for something other than my consent to kiss me. I don’t know what it is but his gaze makes me feel like I’m made of tingles and air.

At the last minute before his lips touch mine, his eyes flutter close.

The kiss is a shock of images and smells and feelings, hitting me all at once—my home, my friends, the ocean, the land, beauty, chaos, life, and this strange, infuriating, lovely boy. Everything about him flashes into me, and then there’s nothing else but Lo."
