Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes the dead leave behind in the world . . . and the imprints that attach to their killers.
Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find dead birds her cat left for her. But now that a serial killer is terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, Violet realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.
Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved by her hope that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer . . . and becoming his prey herself.
My Review:
I know I'm tardy to the party about this book, but I finally got my hands on it just recently! I had read so many great reviews that I just had to read it and see for myself. I'm so friggen glad that I did! The writing is amazing and the plot was pretty darn good! So many time I've been disappointed by a "popular..omg you have to read this" kind of book, but this one lived up to the hype!
My hat gets tipped to Kimberly Derting for writing this awesome story! I really felt like I knew Violet and was nail biting it through a few scenes. When the nails get nibbled you know it's a good story! Right? It had the right amount of tension and mystery! I had a few moments where I was sure something was going to happen and it just didn't! Which is good! I hate predictable plots! This is a great piece of work and I definitely plan on getting the next book!
So basically I give it a B+

I enjoyed this book as well, and thought it was refreshing that the teenagers were just teenagers - they weren't wise beyond their years, super-confident and thrust into paranormal situations. They were genuine - they stumbled along, nervous by each quirky moment, and then eventually growing more confident. Great story, and I need to pick up the next one.
ReplyDeleteI love this series! Book two is definitely just as good, if a bit more predictable than The Body Finder. I think you'll enjoy it though! I absolutely love Jay and Violet's relationship. Kimberly Derting is a brilliant author.
