When Allison is asked to play Cinderella-turned-Fiancee at a Halloween ball, the last thing she expects is to be accused of murder. She has to find the killer and quick, or she'll be put to death for the crimes she didn't commit. To make matters worse, the victims are all werewolves.
On the short list of potential victims, Allison has to act fast, or the killer will have one more body to add to his little black book of corpses.
There's only one problem: One of the deaths has struck too close to home, and Allison's desire for self-preservation may very well transform into a quest for vengeance...

My Review:

Wow! What a fun read! This was a new take on werewolves and their world. I really liked Allison, and thought she was a great character. I do wished she was a bit more fleshed out, with a more descriptive back story. I thought what we did get was interesting, but could have been more so with a stronger introduction.

The story itself is fast paced, interesting, and most of all fun. The pages flew by as I was engrossed in the world Ms. Blain created. The writing was smooth and enjoyable. The only issue I had was the previously mentioned back story and maybe a little bit more fleshing out of the side characters.

I really liked this book!

R.J. Blain

In her spare time, she daydreams about being a spy. Should that fail, her contingency plan involves tying her best of enemies to spinning wheels and quoting James Bond villains until she is satisfied.

Combat and Other Shenanigans

History/Biography/Memoir

Date Published: February 25, 2014

War is hell…but sometimes it’s also funny as hell.
Combat and Other Shenanigans is Lieutenant Piers Platt’s firsthand account of his year as a cavalry platoon leader in Iraq. Wry, action-packed, and poignant,Combat and Other Shenanigans is the absurd-but-true story of the antics the world’s finest soldiers get up to when no one high-ranking is watching.

Excerpt:
The American soldier is known for being resourceful and innovative, which is generally true, but is also a euphemism for being good at breaking the rules when necessary.  Every unit has individuals who are even more resourceful than most, and we were no exception.  Sergeant First Class Peterson was leading fuel convoy escorts later during our tour when one of his Humvees blew a tire.  As usual given our supply woes, he was totally out of spares.  He happened to be near a major support FOB at the time, and after a brief search at the supply depot (who wouldn’t resupply him because all of their tires were ear-marked for other units already), he found a motor pool with four or five Humvees in pristine condition, each of which carried a spare.  Given how clean they were, the Humvees were clearly not used for missions outside the FOB – they were glorified golf carts that got washed weekly and never left the wire.  Peterson and his men were in the midst of stealing two of the spares when a Sergeant from the unit that owned the tires strolled into the motor pool.

“Woah, what are you guys doing?”

Peterson had to think fast.  “Hm?  Oh, I talked to your NCO inside and he said to take them.”

 “Sergeant First Class Johnson?”

 Peterson smiled.  “That’s the guy.”

“Oh, okay,” the soldier said.  “Lemme give you a hand.”

Charlie Troop was similarly short on spare tires on another occasion, so they found a massive pile of them at their nearest support FOB.  Their Executive Officer, Dan Cho, argued for a while with the depot personnel, begging and pleading to get even a few of them released, to no avail – they were all reserved for other units who hadn’t shown up to get them yet.  Being a resourceful, adaptive individual, he thanked them and left.  Then he took his cargo truck to the opposite side of the depot, well out of sight of the depot offices, sent two scouts scrambling over the fence, and used his cargo truck’s crane to hoist the spare tires over the fence.

My Review:

This was definitely not my usual genre to read, but I thought it looked like a very interesting book. I'm not at all a military expert, but I do have family that serves in various branches. So I'm vaaaaggguuueeely familiar with some of the basics.

This was a quick, funny, and eye opening story. I really enjoyed the humor laced in with the serious bits. Platt's writing style is pretty basic, but instead of being a detriment to the book I felt that it brought an authenticity to it. It was more like someone sitting across the table telling his story, than reading a book.

All in all I was surprised how much I like this book!

My Review:

This is quite a hefty book, and a little intimidating. The length of the book means you can't just pick it up and finish it quickly. It's a book that should be taken slowly and savored. The writing itself is wonderfully done. The pace is just right, however I do think that if given a few edits (maybe cutting the page count down) it would have greatly improved a few spots.

The important bits are well done though! The story flowed quite nicely. The characters were definitely well developed and kept my attention throughout the story. I loved the twist and how it was done. I did NOT expect that, so it was a very nice surprise. I won't spoil, but the book takes a turn that will make your jaw drop.

Rapt (An Erotic Tale)
By Laurel Cremant

Blurb:  Jessica Sinclair has spent the last year tip toeing around her new boss Lucas Wright. She wants him and he knows it, but she has no intention of giving into temptation. She’s always enjoyed a little pain with her pleasure, but she never thought denial could feel so good. Every meeting drives her to a sexual edge and yet they’ve never shared a simple kiss. Resisting him has become a delicious game.

Lucas Wright has enjoyed playing the waiting game with Jessica. The sadist in him enjoys every quip and parry they share. But every man has his limits and he’s officially reached his. He’d never thought that he would find his perfect match in a woman as stubborn as Jessica, but every teasing encounter has convinced him it’s time to put an end to their games and show her just how sweet surrender can be.

“You remember,” he said now with a smile.

“What exactly am I supposed to be remembering?” she asked.

“That I’m an incredibly observant man,” he said.

She remained silent.

“Nothing to say?” he asked.

Licking her lips, she shook her head.

“Excellent.”

He leaned forward in his seat, resting his elbows on his knees, the hand holding his drink dangling down his leg.

“Show me,” he said.

His husky demand rocked her. Did she dare?

“We can always not play,” he said at her hesitation.

No!

Her heart lurched at that possibility. As much as their new game challenged her, she didn’t want it to end. Instead, she licked her lips and held his gaze. It wasn’t difficult. When  he was near she remained caught in a strange web of want and greedy expectation controlled only by him.

She unfolded her arms and placed her hands at her sides, curling her fingers tight into her palms. The small bite of her nails digging into her skin helped ground her. Slowly, she uncrossed her legs and pressed her knees tightly together.

His gaze didn’t flicker downward to look, the golden flecks in his eyes seemed to glow and held her transfixed.

“Show me,” he said again.

Taking a deep shaky breath, she unfurled her fingers and clenched the smooth satin of her skirt before pulling it up her thighs, inch by inch before settling the bunched material at her hips.

“More.”

At his husky demand, she spread her legs open, exposing her secret to him, feeling the cool caress of air drift over her naked sex. His gaze didn’t waver—it didn’t dip down to see what she offered to him.

“Perfect. Now isn’t that better?”

She nodded at a loss for words. She did feel better. Something about exposing herself to him—of them both being fully aware of her eagerness to please ratcheted up her need to another notch.

“Good,” he said. “I remember that day so clearly. It was the first time I’ve ever seen you so distracted. Your eyes were glassy and bright. But you know what tipped me off to your naughty little secret?” he asked.

She licked her lips unsure of how to answer.

“You kept squirming in your chair crossing and uncrossing your legs and every now and then you would let out a sexy sigh. That’s when I knew and I wanted to see how long you could last like that. What it would take to break you? That was the day I realized we’d both been playing the same game all along.”

He took another sip of his drink, a small smile playing across his lips.

“I’d wondered about it for a while which is why extended my business trip. I wanted to see if our meetings where as stimulating to you as they were to me.”

She clenched her hands tighter, her breath coming out in deep pants. She wanted him to look at her, to slide his hot gaze down to her center and see how wet and ready she was for him. He didn’t. Lucas continued to speak as if she wasn’t open and bared to him.

“Another test?” she asked, her voice sounding wispy and thin to her ears.

He nodded.

“In a way. That’s when I realized that you and I could be great together. I loved watching you squirm, loved knowing that you sat there with your wet, creaming pussy, and that it was all for me. But most of all I enjoyed denying you that release, of knowing the pain of denial was bringing us both so much pleasure.”

She couldn’t refute the truth in his words, even now as he spoke to her, ignoring her splayed legs, he kept her on edge.

“I’ve always known that I’m a bit of a sadist,” he said. “But I’ve never been into physical pain. I’ve never wanted to whip a woman or spank her until she begged—although I can see the merits in that. My weakness has always been in denial, in a woman giving me ultimate control of her body and arousal, allowing me to determine when and where she gets to come.”

“That day in my office I realized you wanted the same things. You were bringing yourself to the edge of orgasm all because we were both denying you pleasure. If I’m a bit of a sadist Jessica, you are most definitely a masochist.”

“Then what does that make us?” she asked.

A dimple flashed on his cheek as he smirked at her.

“A perfect match,” he said.
