It's Monday!

Howdy again, feeling like I am back on my game again! So this week, I aim to finish up two books!

I've started both of them and aim to finish up. I've got some plans to keep this blog a bit more lively (my bad!) so stay tuned for that! I'm gonna get the hang of posting regularly again, I swear to you!

What are you reading this week?

Review: The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris

I'll be the first to admit, I've only seen the movie based on the novel, once maybe twice in my entire life. It was good but I didn't get the hype. I mean, Hannibal Lecter seemed like an interesting character. A smart, manipulative (oh yeah, cannibal) murderer that was good at dangling carrots in front of Clarice's face to get her to jump through his mental hoops.

I picked up the book just out of curiosity and was very quickly drawn into the story. I have to go back and watch the movie again, but to me the book definitely outshined the movie. Yes, I did see Anthony Hopkin's face when I was reading the Hannibal parts and Jodie's face when I was reading the Clarice's bits, but other than that I enjoyed it much more.

The story, the characters, and the plot was very well developed (obviously) and was intriguing. I actually think the only thing that would have made it better is a bit more back story with Jame. I know they did hit on a few key character points, but I wanted to know much much more about him. Though part of me likes that I'm left wanting to know more about him. I hope that makes sense?

Thomas Harris' writing was engaging, the characters felt real. Clarice was a very strong, well written female character that didn't fall into the "Oh I'm so smart and pretty everyone must love me" cliché that some male writers like to tap dance on. She was tough, she worked for what she got, and she was smart. I think that's why I loved the interaction between her and Hannibal. She's no where near his intelligence level, but she could hold her own and he knows it. I think by the end of the book, they have a pretty messed up sort of friendship.

All in all, I loved the book. I will give it a 4.5 out of 5.0

I'm definitely going to read the other books that star our fun cannibal friend Hannibal.

I did not know this was happening and I am so so so in! These are my selections. Plus I have a few more on my TBR that I might dip into if these are finished (which knowing me won't be likely! I'll update if I do)

Comments:

This is my real first foray into Jane Austen.

I took a way longer nap after work than I intended and then was in a weird foggy state the rest of the night. I have to admit I didn't really read as much as I had hoped! I also wasn't feeling the "classics" for my reading choices

I am starting today at 7am (CST). I'm not sure which book I'll get into today, my selections from yesterday weren't pulling me in. I'm gonna think thunk a bit and decide in a few. (Posted at 6:30amCST)

Update the 3rd: SUNDAY May 7th:

Time: 7am CST

Book: Rhapsody by Elizabeth Haydon

Starting Page: 1

Ending Page: 145

Okay so I'm finishing my weekend readathon. I didn't get as much read as I wanted but I did start a couple of books that I do want to finish.

I read a total of  288 pages.

I started Persuasion and Rhapsody.

Eh, not the best but not the worst. I had a good weekend!

Weekend Readathon!

I missed out on the official Readathon last weekend, but I also have my kiddo here so I didn't really "miss" it miss it. So I decided (along with my dude) to have one of my own. Starting today and going into Sunday night!

I work today and some of tomorrow but all other non-worky times I'm gonna have my nose stuffed into a book! My dude will be joining me tomorrow after I get off work (and take a small nap)!

My "grazing" stack goes a lil something like this:

  • Silence of the Lambs (already started)
  • American Gods
  • Good Omens
  • Madame Bovary (already started)
  • The Count of Monte Cristo (already started)
  • The Woman in White (already started)
  • A Game of Thrones
  • Sherlock Holmes Vol. 1 (already started)
  • Persuasion
  • Gothic Tales
  • City of Thieves
  • The Arrival
  • Rhapsody
  • The Innocent Mage
NO I do not intend on finishing these books in just a few days, but I have given myself plenty to select and bounce around. I'm hoping to finish up SotLs today.

I will post updates as the weekend goes on. If you wanna join along please do so and leave a linky or a comment!

Happy Beltane!

Happy Monday!

Here we go into a brand new week and a brand new month! It's May you guys! I have some lofty pantsed goals too!

By the end of May, I want to have read 10 books and reviewed at least 5 of them! I am also wanting to put another 20k words on the book that I started for CampNaNo in April. Plus, another 10k words on the 2nd project that I started as well. (Kind of my pathetic excuse for not being so active on the blog in April

I didn't get to participate in the readathon this last weekend. So, me and my man person are going to do a personal read-a-thon this weekend after I get off work. I'll take a short nap, then we plan on reading from then til whenever...then Sunday picking it back up for the day!

In the meantime, I have increased my work hours. And I have a side gig that I want to make profitable.  I still am in school and still trying to learn me some Latin (to summon demons of course!) So, as you can see, I may be a bit insane with these goals but I think not!

My tentative list for this week (Monday-Friday)

  • The Silence of the Lambs-(currently reading)
  • Madame Bovary-(currently reading)
  • The Count of Monte Cristo (currently reading for a read-a-long so I'm not aiming to read it all just catch up with the group!)
So color me crazy, let the week begin!
